Technology and education

The new technologies resources have been assembled to facilitate the pursuit of excellence in the University's missions of teaching, research, and service. The opportunity to use computing systems and software is important to all members of the University community. The information technology is a new paradigm in the education, and because of this we need to regulate their use and to make to the technologies a real instrument for the study. For example, the technological resource must be used for educational and administrative purposes, however the Government School don’t use the new technologies in their administration. Anyway, the students also need to learn , since also they use badly the resources of computation.

**

In the Government School we need to make the computarisation as something very important in the educational process, and because of it, it’s neccesary to integrate matters of computation in the diverse areas that we study in the university career. For example, in English classes, we write in an Internet blog and we use computers for the interactive and entertaining learning of the language. In another subject that I had the past semester (Theory of the Science), also we use the computation as the principal tool of work. It was in this occasion where I could measure the extensive thing that could be the topic of the communications online, since it was necessary to learn to mention what one was reading in the web as well to begin to use more the resources that I have.

In relation with this new learning of the students, the University of Iowa indicates in his web page that we need to learn individual responsibilities regard to the use of the new technologies. If first time, we need to use resources appropriately, because the inappropriate use of the computer system cause viruses and the next destruction of files. In second place, is appropriate to respect the rights of others, because the privacy of the personal files is very important in the University: the labor and creativity is vital to academic discourse, and the plagiarism and copyright violations, may be grounds for sanctions against members of the academic community.

The platform U-cursos it is a part of this new vision of the learning, providing tools rapid and easy to develop learnings, both for the student and for the teachers. The university created this platform in order to improve the administration of the resources, arranging this way the matters, notes and materials for the pupils. There was developed by the Faculty of Engineering, which gives to understand his notable quality.

**

In view of everything previous, we can conclude that it is necessary that the university, and in specific the School of Government, could have more technological tools that assure a great quality of the education of this Public University, providing ideas for a good functioning of the schedules, rooms, matters and availability of the teachers, and this way to achieve that we could overcome the problems of administration that we have. For this, it is necessary to write principles that could govern this reform, as well as the University of Iowa was indicating in his web: the only difference is that it will have to be collective, not individual principles.

The volcano Chaiten

The news was not specifically this year, but I think that it was schockly and importantly for the country: the Chaiten volcano. Chaiten is (or was?) a very Quite Town without violence and corruption olmost a paradise in the middle of a beauty landscape.

The volcano erupted during May 2 2008, and the homes to the villagers (the most affected communities are the city of Chaitén, Futuleufú, El Amarillo and Chana) needed to evuacuate. Earthquakes and a dense cloud of volcanic ash were the keynote of these days. Unfortunately, all animals, cows, sheep, chickens, rabbits and most unfortunate, all pets, puppies and kittens were abandoned to their fate... One elderly person died while at sea en route for Puerto Montt. The plume of ash from the eruption had spread across Chile and Argentina to the Atlantic Ocean, contaminating water supplies, and reportedly coating the town of Futaleufú to a depth of 30 cm. The BBC reported that the ash plume from this eruption reached an altitude of 30 kilometers.

The news was saying that this eruption is known as the first major explosive eruption of rhyolite magma volcano in nearly a century, since the 1912 eruption of Novarupta.

Personally, this news caused many questions in me, where inclusive I thought of being going to give a word of spirit to the affected persons. Really, there were days which the country was very worried and simultaneously joined by a reason of help. The psychosocial
effect of traumatic events, such as the eruption and the subsequent displacement of people who are forced to leave their houses, required immediate action.

I believe the eruption helps to create the conditions to a climate change in long terms like any eruption that remains for a long time.

This one was an event of the year 2008 that for the people of Chaitén will be remembered, but also it must be overcome.

Post # 10: Challenges in your discipline

Public Administration will be an important career to change many things in the country, and because this we need to be connected with other disciplines: Technology, Economic and Social Matters, Education, etcetera.

The technology challenge can be, in the short time, to teach responsibly about all the new technologies, specifically in the informatic area. The evidence about the deterioration to the child competence, with computers (or television too), it is clear and alarming.

In relation to Social Matter, the challenge must be in the people mind and heart, in other words, they must get the autonomic idea out of their heads and put on love, fidelity and truth. Maybe this phrase is “hippie”, but we need to bring to the arena these things and to make better this country.

In relation to the education, we need to professionalize the Public Administration, in other words, to give a professional character or status to this function and because it all the country must be favored. The mechanisms of public employment professionalisation constitute one of the most important dimensions in Chile and Latin America. But, in this kind, we need to change other things, like admission to university. Students can choose between 25 state universities and over 50 private ones, but the admission test maybe terrible: the PSU. There are poorer students, mostly coming from public schools, and more wealthy students, specially those coming from private schools, therefore, poorer students have much smaller chances to enter the most prestigious universities, which hold high entry scores.

To be employed at the administracíon is a challenge and, because of it, I study this career. I believe that I can manage to do many things for my country. I love very much this country and his citizens and I would like to see that they live in love and truth, which sustenance and a good education could deliver to his children.

All things are possible, if also this things are goods.

The Government School

First, I want to make it clear that this place isn’t a faculty: The Government School depends of the INAP (Public Affaires Institute), and then of the University of Chile.

The Government School has many things to improve, because in older times this building was a palace, a house in the center of Santiago. It was built in 1875. The Palace is beautiful, said the exchange people, but, the Chilean students want to be at a remodeled place. The Government School needs TO BE a University with a lot of grass and trees, and sun too!

Specifically, we need in this building a rest place (with sofas) or a sport place (with baby-football field or exercise machines). On in other hand, it’s necessary to have all the professors near to the students.

Related to the environment, we need while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations: a sustainable development, related with the electricity and recycling.

We need a big place to make these changes, and maybe we will go to the Chemistry Faculty in Vicuña Mackenna Street, and make our dreams come true. The “Public Affaires Faculty” can be a pioneer in Latin America with careers like a Public Management, Political Science and International Relationships.

We need to support the School cause. For example, it’s necessary to paint the front of the palace, or to clean our bathrooms.

Free time

This theme is interesting, because many people used so bad the time: Facebook and theirs applications (for example Restorant City, Country Storing, Roller Coaster, etc.), the videogames (PSP, cellphone, etc.), to watch so much time television (not only “Elisa”), among other things. I think than the leisure time can be a chronic disease because cause idleness, laziness and bad thoughts (out of control, for example when a people stay in front of computer all the time, and this converted in a obsession); in other hand, the stress it is the new illness in this century and somehow the idle time would be a solution and cheap medicine.

The free time need be used wisely, because one idea can be the first step in the any invention process. Julio Cortázar said: "Before going back to sleep I imagined (I saw) a plastic universe, changeable, full of wondrous chance, an elastic sky, a sun that suddenly is missing or remains fixed or changes its shape." This quote shows time well spent.

When I’m unoccupied, I think to change the world. Many thoughts come to my head and needed to process it.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about God. I meditate in God and their beauty, because in all time He’s lovely and faithful. A Jude proverb said “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil”.

TV and Children effect

The article talks about the television and its effect in the childrens: can be a problem to the children brains, and because this cause there are some public politicies for the population. In Australia this regulation is very hard, but in Britain not yet. According to this point, Patrick Barkham comment about the spended time in watch television or playing computer games: five hours and 18 minutes! It is really incredible and horrific data.

The Australian government explain the decision and says respect to the television that “reduce the amount of time they have for active play, social contact with others and chances for language development”. This rason is real: the article descript that our brain increase in volume in the first time of the life, and because this information the babys can’t see TV. "TV killing off neurons and the synaptic connections”.

Well, the article gives data about one and other hand, this theme is a discussion. The scientists do not yet know exactly the TV affects in the children development, but the evidence about the deterioration to the child competence it is clear and alarming.

The note concludes that the goverments can make advertising campaign of fruit and vegetables for the childrens, but depends of the country culture.

#6: Sports

Well, in the sport topic I have a little problem, because in this moment I not practice any sport. Anyway, in the past I practice Football and Baby-Football (in bigest and smalled places, in grass and in concret), volleyball, table tennis and tennis. I really enyoyed to practice the sports because is good for the health (“the air breathed” is better) and you could have healthy friends.

If we speak about pysical activities, we have a several problem, because more people look for the oriental practices, and they not really said where born the Tai-Chi or Yoga: There are spirituals things in the table, but they speak “Oh no, are you mad?” and they not listen about the Health in the Jesus name... Maybe not all the people recognize the divine power.

Definitely, should be erradicated the bad activities like to eat out of the health order. This topic is very important because Chile has a bad diet, and too we have more working days. In this line, the sports are really importants for the nation because actually the people is stressed and an average percentage have obesity (Rates of obesity in Chile increased drastically in the last 15 years). The candidats for the presidence should to speak about Sports politics (Public Health, Food and Nutrition).

Related with the typical chilean “sports”, they aren’t very promoted during the year. Well, I consider "rodeo a la chilena" a popular sport, but I not understand her sence... I don’t like the beaten cows.

Chili: beautiful country

Welcome to Santiago! This is the capital of Chile. It is a big metropolis with many places to visit, and more things to eat…

When you come to Santiago, you should visit parks: Araucano, De las Esculturas, Forestal and Bustamante. Also, you could visit in the downtown the palace of Government “La Moneda”, the museums Red House and the National History, Santa Lucía hill and the San Cristobal hill.

If you are a tourist, you should eat typical food, maybe in Restorants you ask for “Empanada de Pino”, a typical turnover filled with diced meat, onions, olive, raisins and a piece of hard-boiled egg, baked in earthen or plain oven. Maybe, too, in the same streets you find Cheese Empanadas, and “Sopaipillas” (flat circular deep fried 'bread' made of pumpkin and flour). Also, if you want Sandwiches, you have “Churrasco”, “Chacarero” and “Barros Luco”, or in the supermarket you can sell “Arrollado de Chancho” (Chunks of pork wrapped in pork fat smothered in red ají (chili)) and putting bread and mayonnaise.

If I could make a list with the top five places, I considered that:
1) To travel in a Cable car in the “San Cristóbal” hill. In this place, you could see the entire city and to enjoy with your boyfriend or girlfriend.
2) Go to the “Central Market” and to eat some fish or seafood… They are very delicious!
3) Go to “La Piojera”, an typical Restorant in the downtown, and to eat “Pastel the Choclo” and to drink “Chicha”
4) Go southward in train (near to Santiago) to the Buin Zoo, in Paine.
5) If you want to go to the mountain, take a bus to Cajon Del Maipo or to Farellones.

>Music<

Hello classmates! Welcome to my world! Today I'm going to speak about the music!

Music is an important issue in the young people’s life because it marks stages for all life.

A long time ago I listened to tropical, salsa, merengue and “sound” music. Today, I hasn’t

this music because it is really different in relation to my personality.

I listen to music in all my house: in the bathroom, my room and in the dinning room, because I have a mini computer, and it is portable. I don’t use the MP3 very much.

I achieve the music with friends (it is only for personal consumption!) and also buy CD's (In my house, I have almost all originals CD's).

I like some groups, but I'm not a follower of anyone. I like Hillsong, In Spirit and Truth, Jason Upton and Marco Barrientos.

Kind of music? Mmm it is very strange for all the people, but I listen to worship music. All day: however, when I study, I can’t listen to all the music in a high volume.

In this year I knew the worship prophetic movement. It is a big difference in the structure of regular worship music, because everyday people are connected to God and empowered and released into their purpose and calling. This music prepares the environment in any place.

Transantiago

Transantiago has been a real change in the city: The “facing change” could be, for some people, better and for other people very bad, but, include that it has been getting better and better.

When Transantiago started, all the people said “Oh no! Transantiago is awful! Where is Ivan Zamorano?” and laughed all the day. In those days I discovered differents forms to moving in the city (Santiago), because in the other system of transport (yellow buses, in Spanish “Micros amarillas”) I had too much buses in my street: are crossed eight lines of long-distance buses, to Maipú, Recoleta, Escuela Militar, Providencia, Independencia, and to the Middletown.

The old buses are good for to sleep, especially in long distances just like Quilicura – Baquedano. Now, I only slept twice.

I like the buses information in Transantiago, as the website is very complete, although on the principle went horrible. I miss the big maps of the city. Now, we only have cut maps.

I like to take the bus the sundays and to pay “Scholar”, It is a big difference between the old system and the new system!

In this days, there are willingness of the politicians to improve this new system. Transantiago looks a lot better.

Almolonga Village in Guatemala

Well, I would like to go to Guatemala (a country in Central America) because is a beautiful place to visit: culture, biodiversity, geography and her people principally.

I don't know very much the country, but I know Guatemala City is home to many of the nation's libraries and museums.

I believe than Almolonga Village, in Quetzaltenango (a department from Guatemala) is the best place to visit: The village is known as the "Vegetable Basket of the Americas" (la Hortaliza de América) due to an intense cultivation of vegetables in its vicinity.

I would like to speak with Harold Caballeros, a presidential candidate, and his advisor team: it could be beneficial for my life and Chile too. In this country the protestantism has increased markedly in recent decades in this country: more than one third of Guatemalans are protestant and this is an event worth seeing.

If God wishes, the trip would be to know, to share with my brothers and to work for the God’s Kingdom.

2009: Big year!

This year made a difference, there is big to be said. Has been very strange but, in other hand has been blessed.

In first time, I started a Health course in a Maipú’s church, far away of my house (Puente Alto). Has been highly blessed because I learned very much God’s things. In this moment, there's still two month to go finish the course.

The university always has been very funny... I enjoy a lot!!

In the sport area, during March and April I trained volleyball with the School team. I only played one match, and we losed!... but in this match (I think) I played very good. I just remember this Saturday: I lost the final point. Anyway, because I has responsabilities in all my life, I finished the sport practice. It's a change for the better, but, in this days, I need respiratory capacity.

I knowed much people in all the country (Chile)... It's great! This Thusrsday a friend (Deyanira) come to Santiago, from Viña del Mar.

I has established run to the love, all of a sudden is past... I believe in big things...

Blogger experience - Post 11

It was a pleasing experience, since it went out of the normal things. The interaction with computers is not common in the university (only for works in house). I liked the experience since we could know much more between companions of year. In addition, the practice of the English is very important in the career that we are studying. I liked the activities of the post, since they were original. Some of them made me think very much, not only for English, but for the topics that it was treating the theme. To be creative, rapid to write in the computer, skilfully with the tools of the blog, it was determining how much time we would delay ourselves in doing a post.

The only thing that I did not like was to pass a lot of time in the computer, since the eyes need rest (xD). The disadvantage of the blog was the quantity of time that we invert. In a beginning we use a lot of time, but on having got used to working, we could improve.

Writing in English is good because we can write the verbs better. It was difficult to me the verbs of my post, because I had very much mistakes. A companion helped me to realize one of these and was really different with regard to all the post that I did.

The blog is a good tool of work, is entertained, easily and rapidly … but it is not perfect: in the post of Lion of Judah, blogger erased part of the text. For what I had to raise again the post.

I think that the English teachers must use blogger in his classes, the learning is more dynamic and creative (as Ken Robinson was saying).

This one is the last post, so I say goodbye in English:: ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Good-bye!!!!!!!!!!

Lion Of Judah (Corrected because Blogger erased part of the text)

I do not like the classic pieces of art, for what I chose a contemporary painting.

This piece of art is called “The Lion Of Judah”and the artist is Ana Mendez Ferrell. Is an Oil on Canvas.

The common paintings demonstrate sadness and not very agreeable states of mind; this painting not, since it delivers something special: it is done by people of God, for what it shows kindness, love and safety.

This picture represents the Army Of Light rising from the mountains, like the prophet Joel describes. Their strength is in the Lord and the Lion Of Judah fights for them. I like this painting because is really awesome!

When the end approaches, the leaders and kingdoms going to hear the Lion of Judah, in all his brilliance.

“Hear the sound of the Lion of Judah

See the fire and the fear in the enemy’s camp

From the sound of the Lion of Judah roaring again”.

Ideal job

Maybe this post can be a prophetic reason in my life! I do not know it now, but in God’s hands is my life!

Since it is an ideal work, I will consider the possibility of being employed at the central government, that´s mean, working with the president of Chile (but, why not to be a president?).Being employed at the government allows influence in society and for this way constructs a better country.

One of the most necessary thing to survive there are tools. I think that the main difficulty is have the character necessary to develop well in governmental work.

Anyway, this work necessarily must have to work with people. For it, it is necessary have a decisive character, attitude and a lot of energies, since "the leader is leading always ".

In addition it is good to have an equipment around, since these will be able to advise me when I need it, beside giving me the necessary support for a great mission.

I think that I can be in a work like it. Since I have strained for being a complete person. In addition, there is one on me that is bigger than all.

Anyhow, we still have time for all these.

The education: Ken Robinson

Ken Robinson said “The creativity is very important in education”. This phrase is fundamental in his speech. The students need activity plays, since your life will be determined largely by your formation. In the current Informational Age (s.XXI), encouraging creativity and helping our children to think differently can help them a lot.

The schools don’t reforce the artistic area. “The people say that you are sick if you want to be a dancer”.

I surprised his expression on having said that in all the parts of the world there was a priority order for the education: mathematics and languages, humanities and arts. Inside the above mentioned the music is on the dance, why does this happen?

He said some phrases as: “You must not say ‘you are mistaken!’ but ‘you are creative!’” (This way, the person is not stigmatized to the mistake), “The creation is a way that never finishes”, “We need creative professors in the university”. This phrases are extraordinary: really they show the quality of the speech!.

I think that his ideas are very coherent with the reality: Really the children have a meta, or it will be that first his parents must have it?. The problem is in the vision that the persons have of the education and which will be the intention for which they are going to be educated.

Martin Luther King

I think Martin Luther King was a good political leader, because he accepted the leadership of the first great Negro nonviolent demonstration of contemporary times in the United States; and to do it, it is necessary have a very big conviction and motivation.

He made a difference in the government area, because he inspired the Negro revolution in peace!! King traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times (!!!), appearing wherever there was injustice.

In a peaceful march on Washington D.C., with 250,000 people observing, he delivered his famous speech: "l Have a Dream" (In the picture, Luther King delivering his speech).

I like the phrase: “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”. Martin is an example, not only for the American people, but for the following generations.

In addition, Luther King was named Man of the Year by Time magazine in 1963 and at the age of thirty-five, he was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. Lamentably, he was assassinated on the evening of April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Correction Post

I like this picture. It was taken on November 21 of last year, at about 19:35 p.m. (still I remember).

Here there are my friends: some friends I met several years ago (such as the bald man with lenses that is Hernán) and others i met more recently (such as the boy with a cap, nicknamed Pipo). They all have been a great benediction to my life.

This photo has history, rarely we extract ours photos in group, but this day I took my camera and it was very good, since i got very pretty photos stayed for the recollection. But, in this case, who took the photo? I don't know! But he or she was someone who was walking with us.

This photo was taken in Serrano street, in the "Universidad de Chile" station, in the downtown of Santiago.

I like this picture because these people are real. People who one can trust. Regardless of the hour or the place, they will help you. All the time.

Those, who are they? I will name them in order from left side to right, and top to bottom: Cristina, Rocío, Macarena, Pipo, Jose, Jesús, Rodrigo, Hernán, me, Sarai and Natalia.

Public Management

Public administration is a multidisciplinary field, because has very much theories and concepts from economics, political science, sociology, administrative law, management, and a range of related fields. Is really funny! I like the major, but the work probably present many limitations that they prevent the freedom and multiplicity that yes exists in the years of study in the School of Government and Management Publishes (in the Chilean University). Of all forms, it is not a great problem: the mayor is challenging, forms leaders of the tomorrow (this is the idea!).

The objective to the career is form a new generation of policy makers, policy analysts and public service professionals able to operate effectively in political contexts, and in highly internationalized societal and economic settings to generate and successfully execute policy solutions for the most critical emerging problems of our times. This idea presents a big challenge, for which it is necessary "to train" the students in order that, when they work, they do it as best as possible.

I do not have a favorite subject, but those who have analysis and social history I have liked very much.

Well. I don't like the article in the website http://www.health24.com/Man/Life_stages/748-793-830,23742.asp , because the page thinks that the people does not take care of his body.

In my case, I try to eat recover and without delicacies. I do an exercise in the university: volleyball. In addition, in the subway I try to raise always the fixed stairs.

Good Website!!!

I enjoy visiting a web site called www.porminacion.org , because it is a useful page to clarify principles base of our life and this way to define also public policies of basic character.

I visit this page since one year ago because one friend, called Javier, studies History and he visited this page for his career. He recommend me this page and theirs books… I only read one book, but it is awesome!

When I visited this web, I founded some articles and themes over the family, the state and the church… I like this!

Also, in the web, I found a link to other website: Providence Foundation. This organization has a desire: “Training and Networking Leaders to Transform Nations”. And it is the same desire that it possesses www.porminacion.org.

This page is from the country of Guatemala, and their creator is Francisco Bianchi Castillo. He lamentably died last year.

Favourite piece of technology: TOASTER

My favourite piece of technology is the electrical toaster.

When the toaster came to my house, behind two years ago, because my mom bought it in the mall (or in the market, I don’t remember), we (my family) begin to eat very much bread: the electrical toaster is better than the manual, because it is more rapid (more expensive… but anyway!) , and the bread remains better.

I use the electrical toaster almost every day in my breakfast, because this piece is rapid and I go to the university in the morning.

The toaster is great! It is a very important invention in the gastronomy and facilitates the snack foods in the home… Santiago needs more toasters in his houses!

But the toaster isn’t complete, because not serve to toast entire sandwiches… And in this topic I stop: If you put big bread in the toaster, the toaster will die. That it would do if this was happening? Only to return to the manual toaster, and to be pensiente that the bread is not burned!
